Nursing and Midwifery Council already released their final decision today, November 28, 2018, for the proposed IELTS score cutoff.

“Following the change nurses and midwives will still be required to achieve a minimum overall level of 7 in the test. However, a level 6.5 in writing will be accepted alongside a level 7 in reading, listening and speaking.”

Filipinos are well-known for being able to speak the English language well but, despite of having the skill in communication, most of our nurses who took IELTS exam failed in achieving the score of 7 in all components.  Since NMC will now accepts scores with 6.5 in writing, many Filipino nurse will now be able to work in United Kingdom!

This decision made by the NMC is in line with the devotion to make it easier to work in United Kingdom without sacrificing the quality for better and safer healthcare.

The said changes will take effect on December 5, 2018 and those who have IELTS result under two (2) years old will be considered by the regulator as per the NMC.

Interesting point was made in the last part of the published decision by the NMC,

“The change is just one part of an extensive review the regulator is undertaking of its international registration processes.”
